PURPOSE&ADUIENCE
The purpose of this video is to get people to know their
brand name, and the ultimately purchase their products. They try to appeal to
the funny and sex aspects of our lives to get us interested in the commercial,
so we will actually watch it. The audience this video is intended for is anyone
who cleans, more specifically young adults and adults.
FUNNY MOMENTS
They appeal to our humor because throughout the video the
woman seems to be turned on by Mr. Clean as he dances around while cleaning,
squeezes water out of the Magic Eraser, once he’s done cleaning he notices her
dancing and calls her name which then brings her back to reality that it’s not
Mr. Clean and she tackles him onto the couch kissing him. This is funny because
stereotypically, women clean more than men, so “You gotta love a man who cleans”
appeals to us in that sense.
SEXUAL MOMENTS
While watching the video you can see that Mr. Clean is
attempting to seduce the woman while cleaning. You can tell by watching the
woman’s facial expressions that she is enjoying what the man is doing by
cleaning and in the end tackles him and makes out with him on the couch. The song
played also brings a sexual aspect to the video, the song was never released
but the lyrics say “Got what you want, got what you need. Be your dreamboat, be
your fantasy. I’ll be your. I’ll, I’ll, I’ll be your ecstasy.”
UNEXPECTED ENDING
You could tell that she was getting turned on by the seducing
done by Mr. Clean while he was cleaning, but it was unexpected that Mr. Clean
was just an illusion and it was just an ordinary man. It was also slightly
unexpected that she ended up tackling him on the couch, kissing him.
EFFECTIVE&INEFFECTIVE
The first time I watched this commercial I though it was comical.
I think it has a lot of funny aspects, including that they made the commercial sexual.
My assessment of the video didn’t change after I viewed it more. My assessment
made me notice some things that I didn’t notice the first time watching it,
such as the woman’s facial expressions. The purpose of the video is to get
people to know their brand name, and then ultimately purchase their products. I
don’t think this commercial is effective to get someone to buy Mr. Clean
products, but I do think that it is effective when trying to get people to know
their brand name. I know that Mr. Clean
products work, so this helps me in wanting to purchase their products, but if
someone else is new to their brand, chances are this commercial won’t make them
want to go buy anything from Mr. Clean.
